
NINE PRINCIPAL COMPETENCIES

Competency 001: The principal knows how to shape campus culture by facilitating the development, articulation, implementation, and stewardship of a vision of learning that is shared and supported by the school community.
I had the pleasure of meeting with the Lion's Club of Killeen. They have an annual poster and essay competition. We met to go over the details of the competition and get support from the school by entering students. One of my students won the essay competition and I was invited to go with the student to receive her gift from the Lion's Club.

Competency 002: The principal knows how to communicate and collaborate with all members of the school community, responds to diverse interests and needs, and mobilizes resources to promote student success.
I communicated with stakeholders for various events that took place during the school year such as safety week planning, SSI parent night, flyer for Path Blazer practice.
Competency 003: The principal knows how to act with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical and legal manner.
I attended discipline conferences, ARDs, 504 meetings throughout the school year.
I reviewed the campus and district code of conduct. This is a guide for administrator, teachers and students to follow throughout the year. Students are briefed at the beginning of the year and are expected to abide by the code of conduct throughout the year.

Competency 004: The principal knows how to facilitate the design and implementation of curricula and strategic plans that enhance teaching and learning; ensure alignment of curriculum, instruction, resources, and assessment; and promote the use of varied assessments to measure student performance.
I participated in the district curriculum meetings where the Unit Planner for each grade level and they expectations for the school year.
I worked with teachers of all grade levels to coordinate and plan interventions for students who were at risk of failing the STAAR test. We analyzed data from the STAAR test, MAP assessment, course work and teacher input to determine which students to place in intervention. Much of this discussion took place during PLC meetings.

Competency 005: The principal knows how to advocate, nurture, and sustain an instructional program and a campus culture that are conducive to student learning and staff professional growth.
I assisted with interviews for an ELL teacher, participated in student campus hearings.
I coordinated the Safety week activities and assisted with the planning of the multicultural night activities.
I participated in the development of service matrices for 8th grade students in the special education program who were transitioning to the 9th grade.

Competency 006: The principal knows how to implement a staff evaluation and development system to improve the performance of all staff members, select and implement appropriate models for supervision and staff development, and apply the legal requirements for personnel management.

I participated in evaluation of teachers by doing a walk-through of various content area classes. For one of the classes I conducted a pre-conference with the teacher, observed classroom instruction and then conducted a post-conference.
I presented professional development sessions to teachers on various types of technology that can be used in the classroom to enhance instruction.

Competency 007: The principal knows how to apply organizational, decision-making, and problem solving skills to ensure an effective learning environment.

I assisted in the planning and facilitating of end of year activities for 8th graders such as field trips, celebrations, prom, field trips.
I worked with teachers to identify strategies to use with students who were at risk of failing their course for the year.

Competency 008: The principal knows how to apply principles of effective leadership and management in relation to campus budgeting, personnel, resource utilization, financial management, and technology use.
​
The principal and I reviewed the effect that rezoning had on the campus' budget. When there is rezoning, the school population is affected and therefore impacts the budget.
I developed, scheduled and staffed the remediation of students who failed the first administration of the STAAR Test.
​
Competency 009: The principal knows how to apply principles of leadership and management to the campus physical plant and support systems to ensure a safe and effective learning environment.
​
I reviewed the district procedures for admitting and withdrawing students, including verifying residency requirements and policies related to parental custody.
​
I assisted with carrying out emergency drills.
​
I reviewed the emergency management plan.
